From Filzfabrik I have felt welcome to 1 mm. They are ideal for this and I love this material.
The 1 mm felts are thin enough and you can also contact still good and are still pretty stable.

Uh .... glued with fabric glue .... did not sew in order not to lose the great 3-D effect. Fabric glue holding bomb hard way ... there have been my experiences.
